The Art Of 15mm

I began my historical wargaming journey in 2012, when a family friend and I decided to dive into Flames of War. It proved to be an excellent introduction, not only to WWII wargaming, but also to the tournament scene, both of which were entirely new to me at the time. It was a great experience, and one that laid the foundations for the business that followed.

As I moved further into commission painting and began building my business, my focus naturally shifted towards 28mm miniatures. This scale has long been popular with collectors and gamers alike, and with good reason - there are some truly outstanding manufacturers producing highly detailed figures. Over the past three years in particular, 28mm has been at the heart of my work and the majority of what I’ve offered to clients.

However, I will say that I have received more and more commission enquiries in recent months for 15mm minis and Ive absolutely relished it! I would describe myself as an experienced painter, following full time miniature work since 2013 and so Ive enjoyed bringing the skills and techniques from 28mm painting to the smaller scale, generating some really striking results.

Companies like Peter Pig, Forged in Battle, Essex and Museum Miniatures consistently deliver characterful metal sculpts that reward careful painting without demanding excessive time per figure. At this scale, where units rather than individuals take centre stage, that balance is important - you can achieve a cohesive, visually striking force without getting bogged down in endless micro-detailing. Metal also lends itself well to durability on the tabletop, making these ranges not just enjoyable to paint, but practical for gaming too.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my recent 15mm projects. I’ve received a lot of great feedback on these pieces, which has definitely encouraged me to keep exploring this scale further. There’s something really satisfying about the combination of efficiency and visual impact that 15mm offers, and I’m looking forward to sharing more of these projects as they develop. If you’re interested in having something similar painted, you can find our latest price lists and details over on the commission services tab here on the website.
