French Indian War Project 28mm

Hi folks I thought I would use this blog to showcase a very interesting project Ive been working on for one of our clients - themed around the French Indian War. I know very little about this conflict overall I must admit, so this project has also been educational for me. Studying military uniforms throughout history always fascinates me and is a large reason as to why I got into painting miniatures. This project will be ongoing for a few weeks yet, so I’ll keep it updated as we progress.

The French Indian War took place in North America 1754-1763 between Britain and France, each with their own native allies. To start with I worked on the British, with their iconic red jackets with yellow detailing and over the knee gaiters painted in a brown leather colour.

There are some more British units to come, including some Rangers, which look very interesting indeed, however the client wanted me to work on the native Indians first.

This was a rather large element of the project and I was a little daunted at first, given the variety of colours and markings. The first thing to get right was the flesh tones. There are a lot of exposed flesh on the models and so it formed a large part of the work. I found that building up from Red Leather VMC was a great base for these models, building up to Medium Flesh Tone and then Sunny Skin Tone as a highlight.

Next up on the painting table, we have those Rangers, also civilians, before moving onto the French infantry.

Ill update as the project unfolds.
